How Tom Sawyer Has Matured Throughout the Book

Throughout The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Tom has matured rapidly, and has changed from a young selfish boy to a caring, noble, and trustworthy young man.  Near the beginning of the book when he is white washing his aunt's fence he proves to be a little self centered boy.  When he is asked to come up to tell what he knows about the death of the character Dr. Robinson he shows how he has matured throughout the book.  At the end of the book while he is talking to his friend and comrade Huck Finn he shows how he has matured and become more responsible throughout his adventures.
When his aunt tells him to go white wash the fence Tom goes out to do it.  Before he starts whitewashing he feels self pity but starts the large task.  When he sees some other boys walking by he convinces them that whitewashing a fence is not something a boy gets to do every day and that it was a special privilege.  Well that got them and they begged him to let them paint the big fence, so Tom thought of something even more selfish and told them they would have to trade something for the chore. Tom got rich with marbles and many other things a boy was fascinated with.  later when his aunt saw it he was rewarded by her for the work that the other boys did.  Even though he showed that he was selfish in this part of the story he does mature during the rest of the amazing book.
Tom and Huckleberry Finn witnessed the murder of Dr. Robinson.  They swore to not tell anyone about anything that happened during the incident because they didn't want Injun Joe to hurt them too.  Later on people find out about the murder and Injun Joe blamed the murder on Muff potter who was also there at the time of the murder but was knocked out and didn't know what happened.  The only other people that knew who was the murderer was were Huck and Tom.  Everyone believed that Muff Potter was the murderer, and Muff was going to be hanged if no one stood up for him.  A couple days after the murder everyone in the town went to court were Muff was to be proven guilty.  The judge asked Tom to come up and testify.  Tom went up to the stand and was thinking if he should tell the truth or not and out of courage and care for his friend Muff he told what happened at the time of the murder.  He showed that he was maturing by sticking up for his friend.  Tom knew he promised Huck he wouldn't, but he could not sit there and let his friend die.
At the end of the book Huck is adopted by the character named Widow Douglas and has to live with rules and has to go to school which he didn't like it.  He ran away and hid.  Later on Tom found Huck in one of the hogsheads and told him that the Widow was looking for him.  Huck explained all the reasons why he hated living the way everyone else lived and told Tom that he wouldn't go back.  Tom explained why he had to come back and told him that he could not be in his gang if Huck didn't go back.  Huck was convinced and went back to the Widow.  Tom showed that he matured by helping his friend to understand why he needed to go back and he comforted Huck when he was feeling sad.
Tom grew from a selfish young boy to a caring friendly young adult.  He stood up for Muff even though there was a chance Injun Joe might take revenge on him.  Tom comforted Huck when he was feeling sad and alone.  Tom was a good mature friend.

The Differences Between Huck Finn and Tom Sawer

There are many differences between Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer.  First of all Tom Sawyer has a family and a good home to live in.  Huckleberry Finn does not have a living family or a good safe home to live in.  Huck is a free ranged boy that follows his own rules and does not go to a school.  Tom is a young educated boy that has to live by his aunt's rules.  Although they are both different in some ways they can be very similar.  Huck and Tom both are young boys with many similar superstitions.  Even though they live their lives in a different environment they are both very great friends.  The two boys are both trouble makers, and are very involved in the things that go on in their town.

Why the Summer is Better Than the Winter

For many reasons the Summer is better than Winter.   Mostly because of the warmer temperatures during the Summer, people can be more active and energetic than in the Winter.  The weather in the Summer is safer for people and nature.  Summer is also one of the most beautiful times of the whole year!
In the Summer People are more active and, some kids are out of school.  Another reason is that in the Summer when it gets warm outside, rivers and lakes start to warm up and outdoor pools start to open for many swimmers to enjoy.  The Summer is a good time to ride bikes, and walk dogs because it isn't a very cold season.  In the Summer, people like to do sports, because it isn't too cold or too hot.  Although in the Summer it can rain it quickly dries up the next day.  The Summer is one of the best times of the year because it is a safer time for everyone.
Most people think of Winter as a wonderland and a place where everything is peaceful, but most people are mistaken. Every Winter about 10,465 people die in car accidents and about 41 people die while skiing every day in the Winter!  That is a lot of people that die because of the rough Winter weather.  Many people do not get to go places because of the slippery highways and deep snow.  School days can be canceled, people lose their lives for sports, and men and women die in the wet cold snow.  Many people and animals can get Hypothermia because of the cold Winter snow and air.  Sometimes it can get cold enough to give people frost bite.  Winter is not a very safe time of year.  In the summer there are many things that people forget to enjoy and one is the natural scenery.
During the Summer nature is spectacular!  At night there might be gorgeous sunsets, and in the morning, sunrises.  During the day there are wonderful creatures to meet and a pretty world to explore.  Some people like to get the most out of their lives with the limited time they have, but they won't have to worry because days last longer in the Summer.  Miraculous lightning storms can occasionally be seen in the summer.  Beautiful birds of all kinds spring out of nowhere and light up the world during the Summer.
There is no doubt about it, Summer is better than Winter.  With loads of fun activities, safe conditions, and stunning natural scenes, Winter isn't as awesome as the summer.  Without these things, years wouldn't be the same at all.

Intermediate Literature Unit 6

Marian Anderson and Raphael are two amazing artists.  These two artists are strong, creative, caring, and determined to finish what they start.  Marian Anderson did not give up even when other people treated her poorly.  She cared for the other people that were going through the same things.  Marian loved to sing.  Of all the things he could be Raphael Sanzio was caring.  He cared for his friends and their work.  He took time to help them and watch them work.
All Marian Anderson wanted to do was sing, but because she had brown skin people didn't want to let her.  Even though she isn't treated like a person she still doesn't give up and stop singing.  When she went to a singing school to learn more about singing she was ignored because she had colored skin.  She was hurt by it but she still didn't give up!  Marian Anderson sang and sang until she was invited to the Lincoln Memorial.  She accepted the invitation because she knew she was a symbol for her people.
Raphael Sanzio was a young artistic boy that loved to watch and learn about art.  He watched his dad paint and his neighbor make pots.  This boy was an example of the saying, "watch and learn."  One of his friends wanted to marry Raphael's neighbor's daughter.  Raphael's friend was not a potter and Raphael's neighbor (Benedetto) wanted his daughter to marry a potter.   Later after this Benedetto made a challenge,  it was that anyone who wanted to marry his daughter would need to make a pot witch he would judge.  Witch ever pot was the best the maker of the pot could marry his daughter.  This made Raphael's friend sad because he knew he couldn't make a pot, so out of kindness and care for his friend Raphael offered to make a pot for his friend.  His friend said he could.  Raphael worked day and night on his pot.  When his friend saw it he was amazed.  Later Raphael won the contest with his beautiful pot.  His friend married Benedetto's daughter.  This is an example of caring for a friend.
These two artists are amazing, creative, artistic, and determined to finish the unfinished.  They are examples of determination, creativeness and friendship.  Without these traits the world would be a different place.  With a little creativity and artistic thinking these people had success.

Risk and Axis and Allies

Both Axis and Allies and Risk have many similarities and differences here are a few of them.  They are both war based board games that are based on wars happening in our world.  The games have a lot of small game pieces.  The game boards are similar and different.    While playing these games the player will have to follow many rules that may be the same or different in both of the board games.
Both games have LOTS of pieces.  The pieces in both games are different and similar.  In Axis and Allies the game pieces are larger than the ones in Risk.  In Risk there are only 3 types of pieces, infantry, horses, and cannons.  In Axis and Allies there are many different types of game pieces including tanks, battleships, bombers, fighters, aircraft carriers, infantry, submarines, and transports.
The game boards in both games are different.  They are both maps of the world.  The game board for Axis and Allies is bigger than the one for Risk.  Axis and Allies has more places for the player to attack than Risk.
When playing these games there are many different rules to follow.  At the beginning of Risk the player has to claim your territories.  At the beginning of Axis and allies the player picks world powers to be, he or she can be either Germany, Japan, Russia, the United kingdom, or the United States.  When they pick world powers you get certain territories to go with it.  In Risk the player will earn armies by concurring territories each turn.  In Axis and allies the player has to earn money and buy armies for an attack.  While playing Axis and allies a player can spend the money they earn on developing new weapons or upgrades for your armies, but not in Risk.  The upgrades can enhance moving capabilities, army cost, defense systems, and fighting  capabilities for your armies.
Both games have a lot of similar ideas and different ideas.  These Ideas make them really fun.  If games weren't different or similar they would all be boring.

The Rock Cycle

Rocks form in a cycle.  There are a series of events that move a rock around the cycle.  Those events can make a rock igneous, sedimentary, or metamorphic depending on what events occurred and where.
There are many things that occur to change a rock from one kind to another.  In order for a rock to be sedimentary it has to weather and erode then later compact and cement together into a rock.  In order for an igneous rock to form, another rock has to melt and then cool.  In order for a rock or rocks to become metamorphic they have to layer underground then heat and pressure squeezes them together into a rock.
Igneous rocks start to form underground where rocks and minerals melt into magma.  Later the magma shoots up out of the ground and pushes the earth up with it.  It bursts through the earth and becomes lava.  The lava cools and becomes igneous rock.  Some of the magma doesn't become lava, but forms pockets underground.  The magma that is in the pockets cools into intrusive igneous rock.  The lava that cools above ground becomes extrusive igneous rock.  Like igneous rock metamorphic rock one of the processes is heat.
Metamorphic rock forms in layers underground.  The layers heat up and press together.  They press together into metamorphic rock.  Sedimentary rock is weathered or eroded into sediments then deposited into a river, lake, or stream.  Then the sediments are cemented together under the weight of the water.
This is the rock cycle.  Rocks change over time.  Heat, pressure, weathering and erosion, compaction and cementation, and cooling help change rocks from rock type to rock type.

Hero Myths Of Ancient Greece And Rome

The Greeks had many ideas of what qualities a hero should have.  In The Adventures of Theseus, Theseus had courage to slay the evil Minotaur.  In Perseus and the Quest for Medusa's Head Perseus had the strength to cut off Medusa's head.
Theseus had a lot of the characteristics of a Greek hero.  The most important of which is courage.  He had courage to kill the Minotaur and lead his people out of the labyrinth.  In the story the Minotaur was confused when Theseus faced him with that much courage because no one had faced him that way before.
Greeks also thought that a great hero needed to have physical strength.  Perseus' physical strength and abilities helped him in hard times.  Perseus had to have the strength to chop off Medusa's big head.    Perseus had to have swung the sword pretty hard to get the head off the beast.
The Greeks believed that a hero should possess great strength and no fear to complete a risky task.  They believed that with strength and courage a person could solve conflicts, fight beasts and enemies, and save innocent people.  Theseus and Perseus where courageous, and strong Greek heroes.
